Following the news of ‘resumption of International flight operations in Nigeria’ by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, a lot of mixed reactions from Nigerians have ensued.
The Federal Government of Nigeria had announced the resumption of International Flight operations with effect from August 29, 2020.
The disclosure was made through a tweet posted on the official twitter handle of the Minister of Aviation on Monday, 17th August.
The Minister in his tweet appreciated Nigerians for their patience. He stated that protocols and procedures governing the resumption of international flights will be announced in due course.
He expressed delight in making the announcement and added that the flight operations will begin with the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as was the case with domestic flight resumptions.
In his tweet post, Minster Hadi Sirika stated, “Glad to announce the resumption of international flights from the 29th of August, 2020. Beginning with Lagos and Abuja as we did with the domestic flight resumption. Protocols and procedures will be announced in due course. We thank you for your patience.”
Former presidential candidate, and publisher of SaharaReporers, Omoyele Sowore, reacted to the news on his twitter timeline.
He believes that the Country leaders removed the restrictions on International flights since it was time for their children/wards to return to schools abroad.
He added that here in the country, nobody is willing or happy to reopen schools.
Sowore tweeted: “They are happy to announce the commencement of international flights because it is time for their children/wards to return to schools abroad, September is resumption date for most schools abroad! Nobody is willing or happy to reopen schools here.”
A concerned citizen @ThebhoskyBoss on Twitter reacted to Minister Hadi Sirika’s tweet over the announcement. The Nigerian stated that the Country has been messed up.
He said the entire COVID-19 stories were untrue. He wondered why the Government would choose to permit International flight operations when schools were still in lockdown.
The Nigerian reacted thus: ” Aswear Nigeria is a f*cked up country. How will they make a decision to open Airport for international flights upon the pandemic but they can’t Re-open schools in the country. Corona is Nigeria na Scam”
In another reply to Minister Hadi Sirika’s announcement on Twitter, a delighted Nigerian in Diaspora listed the things he’d do once he arrived at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Nigeria.
He said once he arrived in Nigeria, he will lie flat on the floor and greet his mother. He also emphasized that he’ll hug his wife and babies.
The happy Nigerian in Diaspora wrote:
“Agenda on getting to MMIA
1) leave the arrival terminal
2)Lay flat on the floor and greet my mama with a peck
3)Hug and peck my Sister.
4)Hug and kiss my wife
5)Hug kiss and carry my babies…
Home sweet home..”
Even hilarious tweets followed the announcement. Twitter user DaddyMo wrote: ” Ah finally I can get my supplies of Ijebu garri and pounded yam flour into Qatar on a regular basis. Coronavirus e no go better for una. We are dangerously low on supplies.”
In Nigeria, domestic flight operations had resumed on July 8, with Lagos and Abuja airports and subsequently other airports.
