Nigerians React Online over NAF ‘Operation Hail Storm’

After the announcement of the launch of ‘OPERATION HAIL STORM ‘ by the Nigerian Air Force, a lot of Nigerians have reacted especially online.

It can be recalled that on Friday, 21st August 2020, the NAF announced a plan to intensify air offensive against terrorists in the northeast by launching ‘OPERATION HAIL STORM’.

According to NAF “The effort was made through the Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE.”

The Operation commenced on 15 August 2020 and is aimed at destroying identified Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram Terrorists’ (BHTs’) targets in the Lake Chad and Sambisa Forest areas of Borno State to restore lasting peace to affected communities in the North East.

The Air Force, through effective planning as well as the dedication of its pilots, engineers, technicians, and support elements, has so far conducted series of day and night attacks, destroying several terrorists’ targets and neutralizing scores of their fighters.

The NAF wrote on their Facebook page: “The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, while in Maiduguri from 18 – 20 August 2020 on operational visit to assess the conduct of the operation, commended the NAF personnel for their commitment and bravery.”

“He urged them to sustain the momentum of operations while working closely with the ground forces to make the area untenable for the insurgents so that law-abiding citizens can return to their homes/farms and pursue their legitimate aspirations without fear.”

A concerned citizen reacted to the news on Twitter by saying: “All these operations should be anonymous. Though I understand the frustrating situation. Some Nigerians don’t even believe there is actually any offensive against the terrorist, hence the announcement like this one. God be with our gallant troops. Ameen.”

Another Twitter user replied to the NAF post in a seemingly unhappy manner. He feels the announcement shouldn’t have been made just yet, as they were indirectly telling the terrorists to hide.

“This should be after the operation might have succeeded. Good results call for celebration, “Victory calls for celebration”.By this you are telling enemies to get prepared, you are telling them to hide before your arrival. Nigeria security preparation shouldn’t be published.”, he said.
