Nigerian newspaper, The Sun, has rendered an apology to Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for publishing unconfirmed and false news against him.
The Media Company assured the Vice President that such an error will not repeat itself in the future.
The published story by The Sun newspaper was discovered to be fake news shared by a former aide of erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan.
The article alleged that the Vice President withdrew N10 billion from the Treasury Single Account.
The Sun Newspaper acknowledged publishing a story in their online platform titled: “Ex APC Spokesman asks Buhari to probe Osinbanjo, AuGF over alleged N10 billion withdrawal from TSA,”.
They stated that the post contained some allegations of corrupt practices made against the Nigerian Vice President.
They further said that the publication was based on a press statement, which was regrettably assumed to be reliable at the time of publication.
They emphasized that since the publication, they’ve now had reasons believe that the story was not duly verified to be correct before the publication, based on some fresh facts.
They tendered an unreserved apology over the said publication and expressed regret over any distress, embarrassment, or inconvenience which the publication may have caused the Vice President.
