The Election Tribunal of the Bayelsa State Governorship Election has nullified the November 2019 election in Bayelsa state won by the People’s Democratic Party candidate and Governor, Senator Douye Diri, and ordered a fresh re-run election.
This is due to the exclusion of the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party, (ANDP) candidate, King George from the November 2019 Election.
The tribunal panel ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election in 90 days.
Recall, the Governor of Bayelsa, Senator Douye Diri got the governorship seat barely few hours to the swearing-in ceremony of the All Progressive Congress candidate, David Lyon through a court ruling too. This has led to serious violence in the state which took the intervention of law enforcement agencies to calm the atmosphere.
One may wish to ask, what could have lead to the exclusion of this Political Party from the November 16 Governorship Election?
Some people may say it could have been a backup plan from the opposition party to disrupt the PDP Governor’s good work in Bayelsa .
Others believe that since he is a man of favor, he will find favor in the upcoming re-run polls.
The major concern here is the security of lives and properties in the state because the re-run could at the expenses of the Citizens’ peace.
This is because many rival and opposition groups who have been calm and quiet, might want to use this opportunity to put up violence.
Let us pray that there should be no violence again in Bayelsa State as it was few hours to the swearing-in ceremony of Senator Douye Diri.
