Italian Serie A giants Juventus have announced that their defender Daniele Rugani has tested positive for coronavirus. The announcement was made few minutes ago via their Twitter handle.
Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani has tested positive for coronavirus, the Serie A club has confirmed. The club has said that the defender is currently not showing signs of any COVID-19 symptoms, but have confirmed that he has contracted the illness.
Twenty-five-year-old Rugani, who has made seven appearances in all competitions for Juventus this season, was named as a substitute during the club’s last game, a 2-0 win over Inter Milan on March 8 which took place behind closed doors.
The Italy international represents the most high-profile player to have officially contracted the virus, which has today been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation.
It looks like this may hinder Juventus from performing in the ongoing Uefa Champions League and according to their website, the player tested positive few hours ago though he has not shown serious symptoms.
There is serious fear among the players and the Serie A league may be suspended soonest. Our prayers and thoughts are with Rugani as he battles to recover. Say a word via comment.
