Following the decision of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to continue the ongoing strike action until the Federal Government meets all its demands, a lot of Nigerians, especially students have reacted.
The news was reflected when the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Biodun Ogunyemi, spoke at the University of Port Harcourt over the weekend, during an interactive meeting with critical stakeholders.
He noted that ASUU’s demands were substantial and in the interest of the students and nation at large, as it concerns the implementation of 2012 universities needs assessment.
Mr. Ogunyemi emphasized that Lecturers in Nigerian universities still receive the same salary scale of 2009 in 2020.
He added that before ASUU would suspend the strike action, the government must address the issue.
The association went further to ask students to show understanding as they also have their interest in the list of their demands from the government.
A lot of concerned Nigerians have expressed their opinions about the continued strike action, and taken to Twitter to react to the issue.
“What is ASUU trying to say? You want all these? Definitely, we won’t resume until 2025 if all these your lies are true. When the other nations are trying to balance things up to put students in class again, you are here planking words and trying to hold things down”, an emotional Nigerian commented.
Another concerned Nigerian said: “We should keep waiting fr fg to meet ya demand abi airport will reopen on 29 of dis month and all ur children will go back to school meanwhile Nigeria student should still wait .. God will judge u all one after d other”
